Complete Care Center to Host 2008 Diabetes Workshop
Series
GRAND BLANC, Mich. (January 15, 2008) - As a result
of the tremendous response to three sessions held
last fall about the symptoms and treatment of
diabetes,
Complete Care Center is introducing three additional
workshops beginning in February. The first in
the series of free monthly workshops will be held
from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday, February 7,
at Complete Care Center, located at 8401 Holly
Road in Grand Blanc.
"New information
is provided at each session, so you can attend
only one session or all three," said Robert
Bouvier, M.D., a partner physician with Dr. Roland
Tindle, D.O. at Complete Care Center. "There
are also plenty of free hand-outs and materials
to take with you."
The two-hour
sessions begin with an overview, provided by Certified
Diabetes Educator Dorothi McConnell, about the
progression of diabetes including metabolic syndrome,
pre-diabetes, Type 1 and Type 2. There is also
discussion about nutrition, the different types
of medication available in the marketplace and
an opportunity for questions and answers. During
the second hour, participants have a chance to
break into smaller groups for demonstrations and
training about medication delivery.
It is estimated
that there are 20.8 million diabetic patients
in the U.S. with 6.2 million people who are yet
undiagnosed and another 54 million who are pre-diabetic
and will probably have the disease within the
next five to 10 years.
Complete Care
Center has collaborated with providers of diabetic
medications and supplies to bring these all-inclusive
educational diabetic training programs to the
local community.
Two follow-up
workshops are scheduled for March 6 and April
3, 2008, at the same time and location.
In addition to patients who have already been
diagnosed with diabetes, it is suggested that
people who suffer from symptoms such as weight
gain or loss, excessive thirst, hunger, frequent
urination along with irritability and blurred
vision should attend. Chronic fatigue, shortness
of breath are also common symptoms of diabetes.
Anyone with a family history of diabetes may also
benefit from attending.
There is no cost
to attend the February workshop. To ensure adequate
seating, registration is requested by Monday,
February 4, by calling Theresa McIntosh at 810-695-8011,
by emailing admin@cccenter.com. Online registration
and additional information is also available at
