Deep Tissue Laser Q & A

Complete Care Center

What is deep tissue laser therapy?

Using a kind of technology known as photobiomodulation, the deep tissue laser available at Complete Care Center is a Class IV, high penetration 30 Watt laser. Laser light in the form of photons interact with tissue cells and cause a biochemical change. This causes an increase of ATP at the microscopic mitochondrial tissue level and increased healing of damaged tissues, and shortens recovery times for acute and long term injuries and illness.

What conditions can be treated with deep tissue laser therapy?

Deep tissue laser therapy is effective at treating a variety of ills, including acute injuries, chronic conditions, and alleviating post-surgical pain. In general, if your problem is causing you pain, deep tissue laser therapy can help reduce or eliminate it. This therapy has been proven to help with conditions such as carpal tunnel, tennis elbow, knee pain, back pain, and sciatica. The number of treatment sessions required will depend on the severity of the condition(s) being treated. Generally 2 – 4 treatments can reduce drastically or eliminate the pain.

Deep tissue laser gives excellent response for:

  • All muscle, joint, tendon pain
  • Neck pain
  • Back pain
  • Rotator cuff pain
  • Heel spurs
  • Arthritis
  • CTS
  • Tennis elbow
  • Headaches
  • Fibromyalgia pain
  • Reduce narcotic usage
  • Tissue trauma/bruising
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Sport's injuries - strains and sprains
  • Reduce depression from chronic pain situations
  • Reduces inflammation
  • Accelerates tissue repair
  • Improved vascular activity

Does deep tissue laser therapy have risks?

A major attraction for deep tissue laser therapy includes the amazing benefits it offers patients with no risks. You won’t have to worry about negative consequences associated with taking pain pills or recovering from major surgery. During the treatment, patients may feel a slight warming sensation that is altogether soothing and enjoyable. The process does not hurt, but rather relieves pain quite rapidly.  What’s more, deep tissue laser therapy treatments are extremely quick. Depending on the scale of the treated condition, sessions can be completed in as little as 15 – 20 minutes with no risks.

Are there any proven clinical benefits of Laser Therapy?

Yes, here are just a few:

  1. Anti-Inflammation: Laser therapy has an anti-edemic effect as it causes vasodilation, but also because it actives the lymphatic drainage system (drains swollen areas). As a result, there is a reduction in swelling caused by bruising or inflammation.
  2. Accelerated Tissue Repair and Cell Growth: Photons of light from lasers penetrate deeply into tissue and accelerate cellular reproduction and growth. The laser light increases the energy available to the cell so that the cell can take on nutrients faster and get rid of waste products.
  3. Improved Vascular Activity: Laser light will significantly increase the formation of new capillaries in damaged tissue that speeds up the healing process, closes wounds quickly and reduces scar tissue.
  4. Trigger Points and Acupuncture Points: Laser therapy stimulates muscle trigger points and acupuncture points on a non-invasive basis providing musculoskeletal pain relief.
  5. Reduced Fibrous Tissue Formation: Laser Therapy reduces the formation of scar tissue following tissue damage from cuts, scratches, burns or surgery.
  6. Faster Wound Healing: Laser light stimulates fibroblast development (fibroblasts are the building blocks of collagen, which is predominant in wound healing) in damaged tissue. Collagen is the essential protein required to replace old tissue or to repair tissue injuries.
